7 tips for parents to make their kids more engaging

The Covid-19 outbreak has affected everything and everyone, and the education sector is not an exception. Owing to the safety of the students, schools worldwide closed their doors and introduced the world to virtual learning. Although virtual learning has been in existence for many years, it has gained momentum in the past two years. However, due to the latest variant lingering this year, schools will resume their classes online. Here are some essential tips for parents to make their kids’ online school in Abu Dhabi more engaging.

7 Tips to make kids more engaging

Limiting distractions is necessary

When children study from home, several things in their circumference can distract them, for instance, gadgets, television, etc. Hence, parents should focus on limiting distractions by restricting the use of devices.

Creating rules like not letting kids use any gadget or watch television until they finish their homework will work.

Creating a consistent schedule is a must

According to a study, students with higher GPAs know time management. Hence, parents should teach time management to their children.

Creating a daily routine would be a good place to start. Having a set daily routine helps children to be more focused. Set time for studies, play, meals, and other activities.

Also, parents should make sure to stick to the routine every day. For example, they should wake their child up at the same time, give lunch to them at the same time every day, so on and so forth. It will keep the children active and engaged throughout the day.

It’s okay to be flexible

While following a routine is essential, allowing flexibility sometimes does not harm. Studying continuously can bring frustration and tiredness. In that case, parents should not hesitate to slow down the pace and make suitable changes in the daily routine.

Parents should track the activities and behavior of their children and mold the schedule, if necessary. For example, if a child finds it difficult to cope with the stress of studies, parents should give them more time to progress.

Breaks are important

High screen time can cause several health issues. It can be a leading cause of depression and anxiety, even in children.

Virtual studies have exposed kids to serious health issues. But with regular breaks, things can be brought under control.

Parents should allow their kids to take small breaks during their study time, especially if the kid is finding it hard to sit through the entire class. Ideally, taking a break after 30 minutes works well for most kids.

Encouraging kids to indulge in physical activities during these break hours is beneficial, as it helps in honing attention.

Learning space should not be underrated

More often than not, virtual classes happen in bedrooms, with kids lying on the bed. It is not the correct way to go about it. Instead, parents should consider creating a dedicated study space for their kids.

A quiet corner with a study table, comfortable chair, ample natural light, and an uninterrupted network will be fine.

Allowing them to socialize can be beneficial

Whether it’s an Indian high school or a middle school anywhere in the world, the likelihood of schools reopening this year is slim. Hence, the children might not get the chance to interact with their friends this year too. Moreover, with the schools already shut for more than a year, they might already be missing their friends. Allowing kids to interact with their friends will help them through this awkward time.

Parents apprehensive of sending their children out should at least allow them to call or chat with their friends.

Staying in touch with teachers is also essential

Parents should keep in touch with the teachers. Staying in the loop with teachers is essential to stay updated on the latest learning patterns, curriculum, etc.

The pandemic is treating everyone differently. However, as far as education is concerned, many people are sailing in the same boat. These tips would help all parents facing a tough time dealing with this new version of education.
