Even though these PSP games are old, they still look great.
One of the most popular and loved consoles of all time is the PlayStation Portable. It was an instant hit when it came out because it had a lot of great games that people still think of fondly today. The fact that this handheld console did well despite competition from Nintendo, which is the king of handheld games, says a lot about how good the sales numbers were for this console.
It’s too bad that the PlayStation Vita didn’t do as well, but some people blame Sony for putting all of their attention on their home consoles and not giving this console the support it needed. Even so, the PSP had a lot of great games, and the ones below stand out because they still look great today.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7‘s recent rebuild from the ground up has been nothing short of amazing. But even though this makeover has been pretty well received, there’s no denying that the original Crisis Core looked pretty good on its own.
In this prequel, we saw what Zack did as a member of SOLDIER before he died too soon. It looked great on the PSP, and fans are glad that this game has been remastered with new controls for modern consoles.
Persona 3 Portable
Persona 3 was the game that made this series so popular that it went through the roof. But Atlus thought this series had a lot more potential, so they decided to update the game and put it out again on the PSP.
Persona 3 Portable, a game that made the most of the PSP’s limited hardware, is the end result. It has now been ported to newer consoles. The game uses a visual novel style to make up for the PSP’s lack of power. It still looks beautiful, and fans are happy about the addition of a new main character.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War Of The Lions
The tactical role-playing game Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best games of all time. So, it stands to reason that a new version of this game would get people’s attention.
The 2D art style has aged like a fine wine, and it still looks great today. The tight gameplay is also still in good shape. Overall, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is likely the best spin-off of the Final Fantasy series, and fans should check it out.
Lumines 2
Even though it seems crazy that a matching puzzle game would be on this list, this one is so much fun to play because of how well it fits into its world. The first Lumines game was fun to play because it was full of bright colors and great music.
Lumines 2 takes this idea even further and adds a ton of new content that will make any fan of the first game enjoy their time with Lumines 2. Some people might not like the music choices, but most people who get lost in this amazing party of sound and sight won’t mind at all!
Jeanne d’Arc
Jeanne d’Arc is another tactical JRPG that made it onto the list. The title does a great job of combining real historical people with a fantasy setting.
This game’s 2D art style has stood the test of time and still looks great. Many people who have played tactical JRPGs for a long time think that this game is one of the most underrated games that more people should play.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Tactics Ogre is part of the less well-known Ogre Battle series. On the Super Nintendo, Let Us Cling Together is a pretty fun game. Fans of this niche game have been happy to see its remaster, Tactics Ogre: Reborn, come out on new platforms.
Most of these fans became interested in this game when it came out on the PSP, where it also looked pretty good. Of course, it helped that this game was fun to play strategically as well.
Patapon 3
There’s no doubt that 2D games on the PlayStation Portable will hold up well over time. The rhythm-based gameplay in Patapon 3 fits into this category, as it is a lot of fun to play.
The idea that you can use the PSP’s face buttons to play drums and control an army of Patapons is pretty new and fun, and the game really rolls with it. Patapon 3 is a great rhythm game that doesn’t get enough attention. If you’re looking for a unique rhythm game, you should check it out.
God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta
The God of War games for the PS2 were pretty famous, but nobody thought that the PSP versions would look as good as they did. Chains of Olympus was a great start for Santa Monica Studio, and Ghost of Sparta was a big step up in every way.
It was clear that the developers learned some new tricks while making the first PSP game, because parts of Ghost of Sparta look amazing. Fans still find it hard to believe that such a great game was able to run smoothly on the PSP.
LocoRoco 2
LocoRoco 2 is one of the most unique platform games out there. It’s also a great follow-up to the first game that improves on it and adds some new features of its own. It helps that 8 Ball Pool game has a clean 2D look that has helped it age well and keeps it playable to this day.
The fact that players have to tilt the environment to control the LocoRocos and help them get past certain obstacles makes for a simple but great gameplay loop. In the sequel, LocoRocos can squeeze through small gaps, swim underwater, and do other things that make the platforming challenges more interesting and fun.
Final Fantasy Type-0
Final Fantasy Type-0 is another Final Fantasy game that made it onto this list. Final Fantasy Type-0 takes place in the world of Fabula Nova Crystallis, and its story shows how cruel and pointless war can be.
When the remastered version of this game came out on the PS4, western fans were glad to finally be able to play it. The ending is a real emotional gut punch, and the beautiful CG cutscenes add to the game’s ability to stand the test of time.
