Tajinderpal Singh Toor also won gold for India on Day 8, in the men’s shot put event. Toor threw a distance of 20.17m to finish ahead of China’s He Yupeng (19.96m) and Uzbekistan’s Ivan Ivanov (19.62m).
Toor’s gold medal is India’s first in the men’s shot put at the Asian Games since 2006. It is also the first time that an Indian has won the event at a major international competition since Toor himself won gold at the South Asian Games in 2019.

Jyothi’s silver was downgraded to silver:
Jyothi Yarraji finished second in the women’s 200m final, but her medal was downgraded to silver after a protest from China. China’s Lu Yuting, who finished third, protested against Jyothi’s lane infringement. The jury upheld the protest and disqualified Jyothi, awarding the silver medal to Yuting.
Other Indian medalists on Day 8:
In addition to Sable, Toor, and Jyothi, India also won a few other medals on Day 8. The men’s trap team won gold, while the women’s trap team won silver. Kynan Darius Chenai won bronze in the men’s trap individual event.
India’s medal tally at the Asian Games 2023 now stands at 51, with 11 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 24 bronze medals. India is currently fourth in the medal table, behind China, Japan, and South Korea.
