For an ACS Migration skills assessment, you must know the eligibility criteria you need to fulfill. The authority assesses the eligibility of different types of candidates according to their work experience and educational qualifications.

Eligibility criteria

There are different types of pathways on the basis of the educational qualifications and work experience of candidates: 

Temporary Graduate: 

You need to complete an Australian Bachelor Degree or higher, and the degree must be relevant to your chosen occupation. It’s not mandatory that you have worked in the field. 

Post Australian Study skills assessment: 

You must have an Australian Bachelor’s degree or higher. Your Australian qualification must be an ICT major and closely relevant to the chosen occupation. In addition, complete 1-year related post-study work experience or complete the ACS Professional Year program. 

Skills: 

  1. If having a Bachelor’s degree or higher closely related to your occupation, and it is an ICT Major:

You need to demonstrate 2 years of relevant work experience in the last 10 years. Or, show 4 years of related work experience anytime in the past. 

2. If having a Bachelor’s degree or higher not closely related to your occupation, and it is an ICT major: 

Show 4 years of related work experience you earned anytime in the past. 

3. In the case of a Bachelor’s degree or higher closely related to your occupation and is an ICT minor, 

Show 5 years of relevant work experience you earned in the last 10 years. Or, show 6 years of relevant work experience earned anytime in the past. 

4. If having a Bachelor’s degree or higher not closely related to your occupation, and it is an ICT Minor,

Show 6 years of related work experience you earned anytime in the past.

5. If having a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree closely relevant to your occupation and it is an ICT major, 

Show 5 years of related work experience you earned in the last 10 years. Or, 6 years of related work experience earned anytime in the past. 

6. If having a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree not closely relevant to your occupation, and it is an ICT major, 

Show 6 years of related work experience earned anytime in the past. 

RPL: 

This pathway is for those without an ICT Diploma or higher but with 6 years of related work experience. Besides that, the applicant must have a successful RPL application. 

If you are without any tertiary qualification but with 8 years of relevant work experience, you can use this pathway. However, you also need to have a successful RPL application. 

When you choose the RPL pathway, demonstrate how you earned your ICT knowledge. It requires you to submit 2 project reports for an ACS skill assessment. This report must have details about your career episode and show ICT knowledge earned by working in a real situation. 

Difference between ICT Major and ICT Minor: 

If having a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, complete at least 33% of your studies in computing for an ICT Major. For a Diploma, Advanced Diploma of Associated Degree, at least 50% of the classes must be in computing. Only then it will be regarded as an ICT Major. 

A Bachelor’s degree is an ICT minor when the computing content is 2/3 of the requirements for a major. In addition, the same is with a higher qualification. 

Eligibility criteria for Work experience

Your employment must fulfill the below-given criteria to make your work experience eligible for an ACS Migration Skills assessment: 

Your employment must be a paid one.

You must work for a minimum of 20 hours per week. 

Your employment must be post-qualification.

Temporary Graduate $475
RPL $550
Skills (general application) $500
Post Australian Study Skills Assessment $500

ACS takes nearly 8 to 10 weeks to conduct skills assessment. However, it may need some additional documents, which may lead to extended processing time. 

Required documents: 

Besides identity documents, provide documents to show your qualifications and work experience. The authority has strict criteria on the details you need to include in your work reference letter. Your employment reference letter must include: 

  • Start and finish date of the employment, which must be in the format of DD/MM/YY. 
  • Position title 
  • Description of the duties 
  • Hours you worked per week
  • Breakdown of any earlier roles 
  • The country where you performed your job  
  • Company letterhead and signed by an authorized person for the organization

You need to provide payment proof to substantiate your claims. Payment proof can include: 

Payslips with your name and your employer’s name 

Official government tax records 

Employment-linked insurance/superannuation

Bank statements with your name and your employer’s name
