Overview
This beautiful small hillock is residing at a distance of around 90 kilometers. It is close to the town Pandavpura of Mysore district in the Indian states of Karnataka. The trail length is 950 meters. Once you reach the climb it is a steep rock with hard stone pillars. The place has a mythological backdrop and hence on that mythological background it is named kunti betta. It is said that the Mahabharata characters Pandavas as well as kunti were dwelling here during their 14 years of long exile period. You can witness the paddy and sugarcane plantation with the coconut trees all around serving you with the best views of nature. Also the trek is in close proximity to the beautiful Thonnur lake where you can lend and actually take a dip. The best technique to Reach Kunti Betta
You can reach Kunti Betta by air by taking a flight from your original departing place to Mysore that resides at a distance of 39 km away from Kunti Betta, or if you wish to catch a train, it will lend you at, The Pandavapura Railway Station lies around 8 kms from Kunti Betta. The last option is also by roadway ranging from Bangalore to Srirangapatna or Mandya. Kunti Betta from Bangalore (Bengaluru) is around 125 km. It is 25 km from Mandya and around 16 km from Srirangapatna. Likewise Kunti Betta to Mysore (Mysuru) is around 33 km. Kunti Betta’s History
The place is named Kunti Betta after the exile period of 12 years in which the five famous characters of Mahabharata and the pandu putras popularly known as Pandavas used to reside here along with her mother Kunti. They used to live in caves for a long period of 12 years and Mata Kunti used to shelter their sons over here and also she used to prepare food for them on the peak point of the hill which was actually a utensil shaped stone later named as Onake Betta (onake suggests pestle in Kannada).
After Onake Betta it was then named ‘French Rocks’ since The former leader Tipu Sultan used to do camping over there.
