Radish Farming – Know Essential Steps For Profits

The trend of horticulture crops is increasing in agriculture. Along with traditional crops, farmers now earn additional income by intercropping vegetables, fruits, medicines and spices. In the last few years, there has also been an expansion in the sowing area of vegetables. Farmers are also earning good profits by cultivating different types of vegetable varieties in horticulture. Radish Farming is also included in these horticulture vegetable crops. However, it is a winter-season vegetable mainly grown in the rabi season. But considering the market demand, farmers can cultivate its different varieties for 12 months.

Regions For Radish Farming

Farmer brothers can now earn a good income by doing early farming of different varieties of radish. For early cultivation of different varieties of radishes, the farmers should choose such land which has a good quantity of fossils and does not get waterlogged, and the land is at a height. Moreover, farmers should select this type of land for radish farming. 

 

Radish is a root vegetable that occupies a prominent place among root vegetables. It is available in white colour and its cultivation is done all over India with the Mahindra 585 tractor. But radish is mainly grown commercially in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam and Punjab. It is an early ready crop with low cost. Radish crop is ready for harvesting within 50 to 55 days after sowing. If radish farming is done scientifically, then good profit can be earned by taking more yield from its cultivation.

What Are The Uses Of Radish?

Radish farming is generally practised to obtain vegetables, but its core (root) is used to make raw salads, vegetables and pickles in homes, hotels and restaurants. It is rich in vitamin B6, calcium, copper, magnesium and riboflavin. Along with this, the amount of ascorbic acid, folic acid and potassium is also found in radish. Consuming this veggie gives a lot of relief in diseases like constipation, gas and stones. Therefore, it is considered important in terms of health, due to which its demand always remains in the market.

Season For Radish Farming

Radish is usually grown in the cold season, but due to the development of wide progressive varieties, it can now be produced throughout the year. In radish cultivation, radish is sown between the months of September to January. Whereas, in hilly areas, radish is sown till the month of August. It can be cultivated easily in normal temperatures, but its cultivation requires a cool climate for a good yield. A temperature of 10 to 25 degrees Celsius is suitable for its crop. If radish is cultivated at high temperatures, its roots become more bitter. However, now farmers produce radishes throughout the year.

Selection And Preparation Of Land For Radish Farming

Generally, radish can be cultivated easily on all types of land, but to get good production from its cultivation, choose only land with sandy loam soil. The amount of fossils in this type of land should be high, and the pH value of the land should be around 6.5 to 7.5. Radish farming requires deep ploughing. Therefore, first, plough the field with the Mahindra tractor 575. After this:

  • Do deep ploughing of area 2 to 3 times with a cultivator or plough.
  • Apply 25 to 30 tonnes of cow dung manure per hectare and make the land level by ploughing the field.
  • Along with this, give 25 to 30 kg Nitrogen, 15 to 20 kg Phosphorus and 20 to 25 kg Potash in the area while preparing the land.
  • At the same time, use the remaining quantity of nitrogen after about 2 to 3 weeks while applying soil to the radish.

Method For Planting In Radish Farming 

Radish farming needs seeds at the rate of 4 to 5 kg per acre. 5 to 10 ml before planting its seeds in the field. Treat at the rate of liquid consortia per kg. Radish seeds are sown in flat beds or on pallets. Sow radish seeds on ridges keeping a distance of 30 to 45 cm. And sow the seeds at 1 to 1.5 cm depth. Also, keep a distance of 6 to 7.5 cm from one radish plant to another. Keep in mind that while sowing the seeds, first make a deep groove of 3 cm on the top of the beds.

Irrigation In Radish Farming 

The first irrigation of radish is done right after sowing the seeds. After this, irrigate 1 to 2 times a week to maintain moisture in the field. Apart from this, water the field once a week when its seeds come out of the ground. In the winter season, provide water at an interval of 10 to 15 days. Whereas in summer, rinse after 5 to 6 days. After this, when the plant roots become completely long, the irrigation amount should be increased.
