How to Remove Candle Wax Spills From Upholstery Quickly and Easily

  1. Freeze the wax first using ice cubes. Apply ice directly on top of the wax drop for about 5-10 minutes then try scraping the surface of the wax.
  2. Use ice cubes or cold water to reduce the temperature of the wax then use a blunt knife or spoon on top of the drop of wax. Try avoiding sharp knives as they may cause damage to your upholstery especially if it has intricate designs on its surface.
  3. Place an old brown paper bag on top of the wax and iron over it using medium heat until the wax is absorbed by the paper bag. You can also press an ice cube wrapped in cloth or towel instead of an iron if you don’t want to stay at home while waiting for the wax to be removed easily.
  4. Sprinkle baking soda over spilled candle wax then spray with WD- lubricant afterwards. Let this mixture sit for a few hours and then spilt the wax with a spoon.
  5. Apply WD-40 over spilled candle wax and let it soak in before removing it using rubber gloves or cloth to stop your hands from getting stained by the mixture. You can also use peanut butter as an alternative but you should avoid this method if you have dark colored fabrics as it will stain them especially if not treated immediately.
  6. Make a paste out of baking soda, liquid dishwasher detergent and vinegar then scrub off the remaining stain after leaving it for about 15 minutes on top of the upholstery surface. Scrub until all traces of the wax has been removed including its color and pattern designs.
  7. Place ice cubes wrapped in plastic over the wax stains then try to lift it off using a dull knife. Remove excess wax from the surface of your upholstery using a towel or cloth after removing ice cubes.
  8. Use nail polish remover or acetone on top of the spilled candle wax and let it stay for about 5-10 minutes before removing it slowly with a butter knife, spoon or plastic card.
  9. Make a paste out of salt, baby powder and water then scrub until all traces of melted wax has been removed from your fabric upholstery. You can also use talcum powder instead if you don’t have any baby powder available at home.
  10. Apply WD-40 over spilled candle wax and allow soak in completely before vacuuming the area afterwards. Remove excess wax with a butter knife first before using a vacuum on top of your upholstery to make it look new again.
  11. Mix rubbing alcohol, liquid dishwasher detergent and some ammonia then scrub spilled candle wax off from your upholstery fabric.
  12. Apply olive oil over the stained area then use a cloth or towel to soak up as much as possible from the surface of your furniture or carpeting. You can also try using baby oil instead of olive oil but you should not apply heat on top of this mixture after you have applied it on your fabric upholstery because it will damage its color and design pattern at once. Make sure also that both oils have been completely removed by scraping excess wax off the surface of your carpeting before vacuuming it.
  13. Make a paste out of baking soda, liquid dishwasher detergent and water then scrub until all traces of candle wax have been removed from your fabric upholstery. You can also use vegetable oil instead of dishwasher liquid or baking soda if you don’t have any available at home but just make sure that you are using an oily substance for this mixture so that it will be absorbed better on top of the melted wax stains.
  14. Use butter to lift spilled candle wax off directly on top of its surface after letting it soak in completely first then scrape excess wax afterwards with a dinner knife or spoon. Butter is actually one very effective means of removing candle wax quickly from your fabric upholstery.
  15. Rub cream furniture wax on top of the stained area then let it sit for a while before wiping off with a clean towel. Cream furniture wax is very effective in removing candle wax from upholstery fabrics because of its oily property so you should never hesitate to try this method if you have some available at home.
  16. Apply mayonnaise over spilled candle wax and allow it to sit overnight before polishing off completely with a paper bag or cloth afterwards. Mayonnaise is also very useful for removing all traces of melted candle wax from your fabric upholstery because of its oily content that will absorb into the stains easily, dissolve them and remove them without much effort on your part. You can also try the same method with mayonnaise over spilled soft drinks in case you accidentally spill any onto your fabric upholstery.
  17. Apply a layer of dry baking soda over the stained part of your fabric upholstery then let it stand for an hour before vacuuming it clean afterwards. Make sure that there is enough baking soda on top of the stained area so that its color will also be absorbed by the fabric when you vacuum it to lift off any remaining residue from melted candle wax after all traces have been completely removed from its surface. You can also use salt mixed with some water instead or talcum powder if you don’t have dry baking soda available at home but just make sure that these substances are safe to use on top of your upholstery fabric before you try this method.
  18. Mix up some ammonia with water then scrub the stained areas on your fabric upholstery with a sponge or soft brush to remove all traces of melted candle wax thoroughly. You can also use vinegar instead but make sure that it is diluted slightly before using it because its overly acidic content may damage the color and design pattern of your furniture’s fabric upholstery when used undiluted.
  19. Spray shaving foam directly on top of any spilled candle wax then scrub it off after allowing it to remain for one minute only. Shaving foam actually has the same exact ingredients as toothpaste so it will work just as well in removing spilled candle wax from your furniture’s fabric upholstery. Make sure that you are using shaving foam for this method which is actually designed to lift off thick grease stains on top of your fabric upholstery!
  20. Apply a small amount of toothpaste directly on the stained part of your fabric upholstery then scrub it gently with a soft toothbrush or sponge before wiping it off with some damp cloth afterwards. Toothpaste usually has mild abrasive properties inside its thick texture so make sure that you are applying only a thin layer of it over spilled candle wax spills on your furniture’s fabric upholstery because these substances will be more than enough to lift off all traces completely without damaging the color and design pattern of the surface area where they were applied.
