Sustainable Swaps to Adapt to Reduce Plastic Footprint

Are you concerned about the ever-growing amount of plastic in landfills and oceans? Are you trying to reduce your plastic footprint but don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’ve made a few minor changes but want to do more? You’re not alone. Many people are looking for ways to reduce their plastic footprint because It’s no secret that plastic production and use are wreaking havoc on our environment. One way to do this is by making small sustainable swaps in your everyday life. This can be as simple as bringing your reusable bag to the grocery store or using a metal water bottle instead of a disposable one.

This blog will be divided into two segments where we will tell you easy swaps for your Kitchen and easy exchanges for your Bathroom. So have a look at the environment-friendly products for your home.

Let’s have a look at Swaps you can make in your Kitchen-

We all have a kitchen filled with plastic. It may seem a little tiring to change all the stuff and make it plastic-free but trust me, it is not that hard, and once you finish it, the feeling will be incredible.

  • In our Kitchen, we all store the grains and leftover food in plastic containers. But we have a sustainable option like opting for stainless steel containers or glass containers. They are much better sustainable alternatives.
  • Plastic zip lock bags are used to store stuff in the Kitchen. Isn’t it? But we have an excellent option for this too. Reusable silicone bags are suitable for the planet and microwave safe and durable. Ditch those plastic bags and switch to these cute silicone bags, which come in pretty colors also.
  • Plastic wrap is another thing that is frequently used in our Kitchen. You won’t use it anymore once you start using its sustainable version, Reusable Beeswax Wraps. It is a sustainable option because it is washable and can be reused, thus staying longer and compostable.
  • Ice in summers is our favorite. So throw away that plastic ice tray for the better option available in the market, which is the silicone ice tray. These trays also look aesthetically pleasing.
  • Almost all the cooking utensils are coated with plastic or made with plastic materials. A better and safe swap for the environment and your health is to use stainless steel utensils. Stainless steel utensils are much more heat resistant and will not leach the chemicals in our food.

Let’s have a look at the Swaps you can make in your Bathroom-

Bathrooms are the most neglected part of making our home eco-friendly. But we have tons of plastic in the Bathroom like toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner bottles, face wash, etc. There are sustainable swaps for all the problems. So, let us look at how we can make the change.

  • We all know the first sustainable thing should be the toothbrush in our Bathroom. The sustainable alternative to the plastic toothbrush is the bamboo toothbrush. It is a much better option for the planet.
  • With a toothbrush comes toothpaste. Why not change it then? There are a new variety of products for sustainable swap for toothpaste. You can use toothpaste tablets or toothpowder instead of the conventional toothpaste tube that comes in plastic packaging.
  • Did you know that there is a thing called organic floss for dental care? Yes! You heard that right. You can swap your dental floss with organic floss and your mouthwash with mouthwash tablets. Because the mouthwash tablets are solid, just like toothpaste tablets, they are spillproof and thus can be traveled with them easily.
  • All the grooming products like soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc., come in plastic. Plus, they also have ingredients that can cause harm to our skin. You can shift to natural soap bars that will also be gentle on your skin and shampoo and conditioner bars with almost zero negative impact on the planet.
  • Even our loofahs are made of plastic. Instead of plastic, switch to eco-friendly loofahs, the most affordable swap you can have from the list.
