Why Should You Not Drive Your Car on Under Inflated Tyres?

Have you ever observed that your tyres would not be able to run on road without air pressure?

Continental Tyres Coventry run on roads with proper inflation.

Every part of your tyre plays its part in the performance of your car tyres and air it not the exception. You cannot fill your tyres with air just like a balloon.

Carmakers set a specific inflation level for their car tyres. You have to follow the trend to ensure that your tyres perform well on the roads. You can look at the specifications for air pressure levels in your user manual.

Your tyres rub against the road surfaces and do a hard job to ensure driving comfort and road safety. Therefore, it is mandatory that you adore your tyres for their dedication to your needs.

You can show your love for your tyres by maintaining them well and the prime factor to maintain car tyres is air pressure. So, you have to check the air pressure regularly.

If the inflation level is below the correct level, your tyres are experiencing low air pressure. On the other hand, if the inflation level is above the appropriate level, it clearly means that your tyres might get filled with excessive air.

Both conditions are risky for your car tyres.

In this blog, we will talk about only low air pressure in tyres since it cleats several problems for a car driver.

Before we go ahead, let us have a look at the prime reasons for inflation in tyres.

Your tyres have a natural tendency to steadily lose air through their tiny pores. You cannot stop this process. Therefore, you have to check the air pressure regularly in your tyres.

Punctures also cause underinflation in car tyres. Shards of glass or iron nails may pierce the body of your tyres at any time to cause a low inflation level. Slow punctures in your tyres are more dangerous since they are hard to detect. Only a trained mechanic can find out the root cause of regular underinflation in your car tyres.

Tyres lose air pressure in cold conditions. When air is cold, its molecules will move slowly and air will contract naturally to cause the low air pressure in your tyres.

The tyre may lose air pressure due to faults in tyre parts like a bead, valve or valve cap. These parts may face corrosion over time to cause air leakage.

Now, let us look at the perils of low air pressure

High rolling resistance:

When your tyres run on the road with a low inflation level, the level of rolling resistance will increase automatically due to a wider contact area. Therefore, your engine will experience more pressure to move your vehicle. As a result, the fuel efficiency of your vehicle will do down as well.

Affect handling:

Your tyres with low air pressure will affect driving comfort. You will face great trouble while you accelerate, stop or turn your vehicle that is moving on underinflated tyres.

Reduced loading capacity:

Loading capacity of a tyre and air pressure may linked with each other. If your tyres are properly inflated, they will bear the weight of the vehicle successfully. Tyres with low air pressure would not able to carry the specified weight of the vehicle.

Uneven tread wear:

If you keep the low air pressure in your tyres for a long time, your tyres will start to show signs of wear in both sides. Heat, friction, and high speed are some factors that will play their roles in this process.

Blowouts:

Your tyres with low air pressure flex on the road surface and they will touch a larger area of the road surface. As a result, more friction and heat will take place to degrade your rubber material. If you keep this condition of tyres stable for a long time, they will blowout suddenly and you have to change your tyre instantly.

Overheating:

There are a lot of reasons for tyre overheating and under-inflation is one of them. Due to high speed, more friction and a larger contact patch, more heat will take place and it will degrade your tyres over time.

What is the solution?

You can save your tyres from the bad effects of underinflation by checking air pressure regularly. Never check the air pressure when they are heated. Let them lose the heat and then check the air pressure.

You may have branded tyres or Cheap Tyres Coventry in your car but the basic rules would not change. Every tyre witnesses the bad effects of underinflation in tyres. Therefore, never avoid air pressure in your car tyres for a long time.
