How To Get Cash From A Prepaid Visa Debit Card?

Prepaid Visa Debit Card

Transferring money from a prepaid card to a current account is possible, but different methods must be followed according to different hypotheses which are:

  • prepaid card linked to a current account;
  • rechargeable not linked to a current account;
  • prepaid card belonging to a bank other than the one that manages the current account;
  • prepaid card with Iban that allows you to make transfers or not enabled.

We also remind you that there may be limits in the choice of the method that allows you to transfer money from a prepaid card to a current account, depending on whether it is a virtual or physical prepaid card.

In the first case, it will not be possible to make withdrawals. Not only that but the range of possible alternatives can also be reduced to zero if the possibility of being able to:

  • make an outgoing transfer via internet banking;
  • proceed with a re-credit on an account or physical prepaid.

What to do?

There is no single procedure to be able to transfer money from a prepaid card to a current account, which can be done directly or indirectly. The direct method is the one with fewer limits since it is sufficient:

  1. make the withdrawal from the ATM or from the counter;
  2. credit the sum on the current account.

In choosing between the two systems, the costs applied to both ATM and counter withdrawals must be considered (the costs are different depending on whether you have a prepaid card from the UniCredit group, Bnl, Intesa Sanpaolo, Orange account, etc.).

Which one to prefer?

As already mentioned, the indirect system can be the only alternative when the following hypotheses occur:

  • you have a prepaid which does not allow you to make re-credits or transfers;
  • you have a prepaid card that allows you to make wire transfers or transfers only to a bank of the same group, but the account is with a bank of a different group.

Transfer money from a prepaid card to a current account: with credit

Then there is the possibility (which depends on the type of product you have, as there is no standard system for transferring money from a prepaid card to a current account) of direct credit.

This is always possible by bank transfer, regardless of belonging to a specific banking group if the prepaid is enabled to make transfers.

Obviously, also, in this case, the costs associated with this type of operation must be considered. The other direct hypothesis is when you have a prepaid account with the same bank, and the card provides for the re-credit function on the account through which it is reloaded.

This is a function that is present above all with prepaid cards that offer exclusively or almost exclusively the recharge through a linked current account.

Transferring money from a prepaid card to a checking account is a feature provided in almost all prepaid cards.

But how do you automatically transfer money from your prepaid card to your current account without first withdrawing it?

If the prepaid card is placed by the bank where you have the current account, you just need to do what in technical jargon is called unloading the card. It simply means automatically moving the money on the prepaid card to the checking account, which you usually use to load the prepaid card. To do this, enter the internet banking of your account and on the prepaid card management page, you should find the link to proceed with the download of the prepaid card.

For example, this feature is provided for the Mastercard cards of the current account, the current account, and other online banks. But beware that you pay a commission

for unloading the prepaid card which can even go up to two euros. Perhaps it is cheaper to withdraw from the ATM of the bank that issued the card and pays the money into the current account because there are usually no commissions. But I understand that this operation can be inconvenient.
