iPhone 6 Review: Ooh the Design!

After trying iPhone 6 Plus | iPhone 6 Plus Review | the time has come for the “younger” brother, iPhone 6 . THE real iPhone 2014. Revamped compared to last year’s model in several respects, it is undoubtedly a product that aficionados of the brand will hardly miss. Below is the review:

Hardware, Materials and Egonomy:

iPhone 6 comes with a renewed design compared to the previous Apple generation with a significant (declared) increase in performance thanks to the adoption of the new A8, a dual core CPU with 64-bit architecture made with 20nm technology always flanked by the coprocessor of M8 movement that allows us to collect information on our motor activity without subtracting processor and battery resources. Here too a novelty: the barometer has been introduced for the evaluation of the pressure difference and therefore of the difference in height (useful for making the iPhone understand if we are doing the stairs). The RAM memory stays at 1GB.

As for the integrated memory, we have three cuts: 16GB, 64GB and 128GB, not expandable. Apple has decided to eliminate the 32GB version leaving the price gap between version 16 and 64 unchanged compared to the previous 32. It appears a bit like a strategic move to entice the purchase of the larger denomination. The 128 gb version, on the other hand, satisfies users who use little cloud and synchronizations, keeping most of their content locally, especially multimedia. We strongly advise you to take the 64GB version in order not to have too many problems with applications, data and updates (which often require GB of free memory to be installed) also in light of the fact that videos can only be recorded in full HD with relative occupancy of memory.

Let me tell you about Maya Parts. Maya Parts is a cellular replacement parts distribution and wholesale operation involved exclusively in B2B sales and services.

More generous dimensions allow you to have a 4.7-inch display with a scaled resolution compared to the iPhone 5S and equal to 750 x 1334 pixels. Connectivity is complete with high-speed dual band Wi-Fi , Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and, new, even NFC which only allows electronic payments to be made via the new Apple Pay service (not yet active in our latitudes). Thanks to the more space available, Apple has managed to integrate an 1810mAh battery.

iPhone 6 handles well thanks to its reduced thickness and rounded edges. Being able to use it with one hand is not problematic even if the handling of the 5s is another thing. Excellent, as usual, the materials used. The body, made entirely of aluminum, embraces the side profiles with a soft curvature that perfectly joins the display (also with curved edges) and allows to offer a pleasant ergonomics thanks to the weight of 129 grams. The rear linearity is interrupted by plastic inserts that delimit the parts with the antennas and by the protrusion of the camera flanked by the circular dual-tone flash and a secondary microphone.

Display:

As mentioned above we are talking about a 4.7 inch IPS with a scaled resolution compared to the iPhone 5S and equal to 750 x 1334 pixels which allows to keep the compatibility and fluidity with the applications and games developed for 5s practically unchanged. The problems with the 6 Plus did not arise and everything moves perfectly. The display is excellent. it maintains the excellent visibility in the sun of the previous 5s by combining very good viewing angles, even if not absolute, as well as the convincing blacks for the type of panel (the absolute, angles and blacks, are draped by OLED technology). Excellent touch sensitivity and sensitivity of the brightness sensor, which leaves the user with the fine adjustment.

Audio and Reception Battery:

Unfortunately, the power outlet, the case with battery pack, the external battery or the like will also be necessary with iPhone 6, at least if like Andrea you have a very intense use of calls and data, especially under 4g coverage. There is not much to say except that from 1810mAh it is impossible to expect miracles and, system optimization, not exaggerated resolution and limited RAM are not enough to get us to the bedroom. Compared to iPhone 5s, the increase is about 15% but not enough to be able to rest assured all day.

On the other hand, the audio is excellent and once again proves to be excellent in all conditions. The speakerphone is very powerful with high volume, pleasant listening quality, no distortion and clean sound. Ditto in the iPhone earphone capsule reconfirms itself as an excellent telephone smartphone. If we add to this also the convincing reception and a very fast GPS module, you will hardly find yourself in difficulty outside the home. Wi-Fi is also good although it is a less powerful thread than other recently tested products.

Software:

iPhone 6 white lcd is based on the new version 8 (in particular we are already at 8.02 in our test) of the iOS operating platform that offers many new features compared to the previous release. Compared to the twin iPhone 6 Plus, there is no possibility of using the user interface even in landscape mode. A shame since the display would still be large enough to allow a split of the UI. However, there remains the possibility of reducing the screen, whatever, with a double tap on the Touch ID to reach all corners of the screen with a finger: easy, comfortable, but the implementation is very basic and could have been studied better. In practice, at each tap you have to repeat the gesture to return to one-handed use.

Still on the software side, iMessage is enriched with the possibility of sending, in addition to images, also voice and video and to create groups while the keyboard offers an intuitive word prediction system. It is also possible to use third-party keyboards that can be downloaded from the App Store, one of the most important innovations of this new update together with the major APIs.

Camera and Multimedia:

The main camera of the iPhone 6 has an 8 megapixel sensor that does not change in resolution compared to the previous generation but improves the optics and the aperture. Another difference compared to the iPhone 6 Plus concerns the optical image stabilizer which is not present on the 6 and which only boasts software stabilization. Precisely this aspect is interesting as the work done is excellent since the stabilization is really very good, perhaps better than the optical one.

The interface is the classic iOS one with some new features including slow motion at 120 and 240fps (example above). This last feature is really interesting because, combined with the stabilizer, it allows you to make slow motion videos of sure effect and perfectly stabilized; analogous speech for the time lapse, panorama that can then exploit some filters in real time and HDR.

Photos can be taken in 4: 3 or 1: 1 aspect ratio. Excellent quality of photos taken both in wide field and in macro mode. The quality of the photos taken in low light conditions is also very good. iPhone is confirmed as one of the best cameras in terms of “point and shoot”.

Great videos but with recorded audio that doesn’t beat the competition. Overall it remains a great tool for making home videos.

Conclusions:

The iPhone 6 is the real iPhone 2014: compared to the Plus there are no real reasons not to prefer it other than a shorter battery life. For the rest it is identical, more manageable, balanced and practical. The horizontal rotation is not a real added value of the Plus and is certainly not comparable to an iPad for general functionality. Therefore a 4.7 inch seems to be the right choice able to satisfy those looking for a practical product but at the same time with a display large enough not to disfigure next to that of a friend.
