10 Tips to prepare your child for Primary School

Starting primary school is one of the biggest milestones for every child. While your little one might be a little nervous and excited for the first day at the ‘big school,’ you need to take certain steps that will make this transition a lot easier and give a kick start to your child’s education journey.

Here are a few tips that will help you prepare your child for the first day at Primary School:

Get Familiar

While your child needs to know about the new school better, this will also give you’re a closer look and an insight into the primary school. You should visit some of the best Primary Schools in Delhi which will give you an opportunity to get familiarized with the route, the surroundings, and the campus. Moreover, you can also meet some teachers that will help you and your child know the school better. This will ensure that your child does not find the idea of ‘going to school’ overwhelming.

Socialize With Students

A preschool child will already have a few friends who might be starting primary school with them. This gives your child a great way to socialize with the ones who will be attending the school with them. However, you can also help your child make new friends by connecting with other parents or children who will be attending the same class as your child. One of the best ways to introduce each other is by arranging playdates where they can spend more time together and make some new friends.

Talk to your child

Starting school is a big step for every child. Be sure that you talk to them about how they feel about the whole process. Ask them certain questions that will help them communicate about their interests and concerns they might have. This will give you an opportunity to tell your child about what are the different things that they should expect on their first day of school. Having healthy communication will help you provide your kid with some reassurance and make them feel confident.

Establish a Routine

You would not want your child to doze off in the middle of a lesson. So, it is better that you start establishing a routine beforehand. This will help your child get used to going to bed early and waking up early in the morning – as the school demands. Set up a timetable and stick to it. You can also arrange a ‘learning hour’ where you can teach them basic things like counting and letters. Later, you can dedicate the same time to homework.

Teach Your Child to Use the Toilet Independently

This is one of the most major concerns for parents and all for the right reasons. By the time your kid starts going to school, they should be able to use the toilet independently. While your child would be comfortable with you helping them out, at school they might feel embarrassed to do so. Thus, it is better to train them beforehand so that they are able to use the toilet properly and ensure that they leave the place clean.

Buy School Supplies

Once your child is ready for primary school, it is time to pick up some school supplies. This is one ‘back-to-school’ ritual that you cannot miss out on. While giving you a sense of nostalgia, this will stoke excitement in your little one. So, it is better that you shop for some basic school supplies like a backpack, stationery, uniform, books, water bottle, and a tiffin that will prep them for school.

Prepare Yourself

Now that your child is all set to start school, it is important that you prepare yourself as well. It is quite normal to get emotional when you see your child grow up. The thought of not seeing your child for hours can be daunting for parents. However, it is crucial for the overall growth and development of your child.

And while there will be a bunch of emotions that you would feel at this time, you need to reassure yourself that this is how your little one will become an independent individual. You can arrange a few things for yourself that will keep you busy until you can pick your child up from school and ask them how their first day at Primary School was.

We hope that these tips will help you and your child adjust to the new schedule of primary school in a much better and easier way.
