11 Tips to Stay Healthy at Work

According to Buddhist philosophy, achieving good health is the greatest advantage that a man can gain in his life. We all know the importance of remaining in good health, but we tend to overlook and avoid it. The best definition for “Office” would be “home away from home,” with people spending over 9 hours at their workplaces; this home away from home is making people unhealthy. Earning a living doesn’t need to cost you your health. There are plenty of things you can do to make sure you stay healthy and happy at work.

Every time we are at home, we ensure that we are having healthy food and going to the gym, maintain all the necessary hygiene, and are living a relaxed and stress-free lifestyle. But the moment we enter the office all this is instantly forgotten. Working in the office under stressful conditions such as sitting in front of the computer for hours with no proper light or ventilation, eating out unhealthy stuff, and sometimes even working without a break can be very stressful and the results though common for all office-goers i.e. an unhealthy body. It’s not that work is always unhealthy for us, but it does offer us some opportunities, which can improve our health but are often overlooked and avoided due to busy schedules.

Following some of the simple tips on how to stay physically active at work will help you stay healthy at work.

  1. Clean your desk: Your desk is one place in the office, where you spend most of your time, which is the only reason why you should keep it clean. This also shows how hygiene-conscious and cleanliness-loving you are.
  2. Wash your hands frequently or use a sanitizer: Whenever you are at work make sure that you are washing your hands often with soap and keep them clean. Always keep a bottle of sanitizer at your desk to cut down the risk of catching an infection through your own hands.
  3. Carry 2 Tiffin’s Box: Along with your home-cooked, lunchbox carry small Tiffin for 4 O’clock hunger. This will contain light, but healthy food items such as boiled corn, sprouts, cereals, sprouts, fruits, dry fruits and nuts, chips, etc.
  4. Stay hydrated: Always carry a bottle of water with you and keep a filled glass of water at your desk. Keep yourself hydrated, and water detoxifies your body.
  5. Keep your windows open: If your workplace has windows, then keep them open. This will not only allow ventilation by bringing fresh air in but also result in giving your body the essential vitamin D due to exposure to sun rays.
  6. Take regular small breaks: Take regular 5-7 minute breaks from work. Get away from your desk and go for a walk in the office corridors or simply close your eyes and meditate.
  7. Avoid Stairs: Walk as much as you can. For instance, you can make use of staircases over lifts and escalators. And walk to your nearby destination instead of looking for some transport options.
  8. Have an apple: Always keep an apple on your desk. This will help you stay away from tea and coffee. Look for other healthy options instead of drinking tea and coffee from fresh fruit juices.
  9. Speak Up: If there is anything that is upsetting you then speak up and let your senior or boss know about don’t just live with it. This will be even more harmful to your health, hence speak up.
  10. Watch the clock: Follow a strict schedule, and set deadlines according to them this will help you avoid overtime and extra sitting in the office and will help you achieve your goals better.
  11. Keep your family as your 1st priority: work is more important, but not more than family hence always ensure to take out quality time for your family and loved ones they are important in your life.
